It's far more likely that kselt spirits are collectives made up of vast numbers of much smaller constituent spirits (like spores, or perhaps raft krill), and when an individual kselt shelf dies or is consumed, those tiny, fragmentary spirits - metamotes, if you will - disperse and combine with other wandering metamotes to form new collectives, which are naturally drawn to new kselt growth. I believe that each complete kselt spirit has an incredible ancestral memory stretching back ages, but only when it's gathered at rest in its fungus; a wandering, partial collective will inevitably be a simpler being, living solely in the moment, with no concept of malice or vengeance. That's why they're so friendly!
